Anthony von Mandl

Intensity, infectious passion and an unwavering commitment to his vision, has enabled Anthony von Mandl to successfully realize his dream of putting British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley on the world wine map.

After winning ‘Canadian Winery of the Year’ for the sixth timeMission Hill Family Estate recently surprised the international wine world by winning the prestigious ‘Best Pinot Noir in the World’ trophy at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London which has some 13,000 entries.

Having started out with nothing but an outrageous dream, he was forced to self-finance and became the leading innovator in the flavored cider and Ready to Drink categories, developing patentable technology and groundbreaking brands such as Mike’s Hard Lemonade that launched new-to-the-world beverage categories. He fought off competition from the world’s largest brewers and distillers to become #1 in North America and along the way built Canada’s first ‘green’ Craft Brewery having first launched and built Corona beer in Canada.

The family manages 32 vineyard estates and four wineries, including the just completed showcase 6-level, gravity fed Martin’s Lane Pinot Noir winery, recently launched CheckMate Artisanal Winery which takes advantage of the tremendous impact of climate change on the Okanagan to produce ‘le Montrachet’ - like Chardonnay in addition to his architecturally celebrated Mission Hill Family Estate and CedarCreek Estate Winery.

In 2016, he was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honour, and he is also the recipient of the Order of British Columbia; both honours recognize his innovative contributions to enhancing Canada’s international reputation in the wine industry. A former YPO International Board Member, he has served on the Advisory Boards at the University of Western Ontario and the University of British Columbia. In 2011, he was the co-recipient of ‘The Warren Bennis Award for Leadership Excellence’ alongside A.G. Lafley, CEO of Procter & Gamble. Previous winners include Mikhail Gorbachev, Benazir Bhutto, and Howard Schultz.
