X PRIZE Cup Education Day
A staple of the X PRIZE Cup is Education Day, a comprehensive education program for local students. In the past, students have met with astronauts like Anna Fisher and Cady Coleman, space pioneers and entrepreneurs like Anousheh Ansari, Nancy Conrad and Dr. Peter Diamandis, Chairman and CEO of the X PRIZE Foundation, along with many others.
In 2007, more than 6,000 students from area schools explored the wonders of aerospace and rocketry while learning about science, math and physics. Educational activities prepared for the students were tailored to a spectrum of K-12 age groups. And, they were able to get a close up view of the exhibits, launch their own rockets and even build a tether climber with LEGOs.
Education Day at the Cup was also used as a platform for the Space Frontier Foundation to announce their newly revived Teachers in Space Program. Selected teachers will have the opportunity to travel into space on one of the sub-orbital spaceships that are being developed by various companies.
