Our team is composed of industry experts from all the necessary subsystem disciplines, molded into a "skunk-works" environment to ensure rapid prototyping and development. Our team members are recognized industry leaders from aerospace, manufacturing, controls design, software engineering, electronics design, custom fabrication, and program management. Our vehicle, the Volkon, is a privately developed launch vehicle designed to demonstrate vertical takeoff / vertical landing technologies and subsequently compete in NG-LLC.
Crew
Chief Bio: Kevin Sagis of Paragon Labs has a wide range of experience in the field of aerospace. After graduating with a BS degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, he worked for Lockheed Martin and supported various NASA centers such as the Johnson Space Center and Marshall Space Flight Center. He then founded Paragon, which has been developing aerospace technologies for the last seven years. In addition to fielding a successful sub-orbital vehicle, he has conducted numerous full design cycles and static motor firings during the development of various aerospace R&D vehicles and propulsion systems. Kevin has also served as the Launch Conducter of various mission operations requiring the oversight of the FAA's Office of Commercial Space Transportation.
Interesting Team Fact: Two things of interest – first, we are going to depart and return to the staging area to the sound of bagpipes. Also, to our knowledge, our use of E85 is the first use of E85 in a bipropellant rocket engine, making Volkon the first Flex Fuel rocket.
Team Paragon on the NG-LLC: "NG-LLC is a natural progression from the ANSARI X PRIZE. I fully expect some of the work products from NG-LLC to make their way into the mainstream aerospace R&D mentality and work effort."
What is our next big milestone? Start flying the vehicle on a tether
Team Paragon would like to thank : Superior Metal Products, red.code technologies, Solid-Motion, Sagis, Finch, and Cremers families.
What will we do if we win the prize? Gamble in Vegas?
Why do we have an advantage over the competition? Our team has an excellent mix of skills in all the necessary functional areas and has demonstrated the ability to make sound engineering decisions, resulting in rapid design and development. Choosing to take ownership of all facets of the design elements of the vehicle further helps to reduce risk and absorb schedule fluctuations. |
