Armadillo Aerospace is a small research and development team working on computer-controlled LOX/ethanol rocket vehicles, with an eye towards manned and unmanned suborbital and orbital vehicle development in the coming years. The team currently consists of a bunch of guys, a girl, and an armadillo named Widget. Our fearless leader, John Carmack, will lead us to space and, well, outer space. Our current efforts are focused on the NASA Vertical Rocket Challenge and the NASA Centennial Lunar Lander Challenge at the 2006 Wirefly X PRIZE Cup. Thereafter, Armadillo has several projects in the "Armadillo Works." |
Crew Chief Bio: John almost requires no introduction. He is the founder of id Software, one of the most
successful computer gaming software companies in history with their Quake and Doom series of
games. John is universally recognized as the technological leader in the gaming industry, and
he is renowned for his contributions to 3-D graphics technology. John is not only the functional
leader of Armadillo Aerospace; he is also its spiritual leader and a perpetual source of ideas and
inspiration.
Interesting Team Fact: Armadillo Aerospace is still an all-volunteer organization after six years of pioneering work.
Team Armadillo on the NG-LLC: "Who moved that bloody landing pad?"
What is our next big milestone? Just completed a 3-minute plus hover test on Pixel. Next major milestones are Lunar Lander Mission demo flights at Spaceport Oklahoma.
What will we do if we win the prize? When we win the prize, we will pursue our goal of manned sub-orbital space and orbital space flight at prices the average guy in the street can afford.
Why do we have an advantage over the competition? A dedicated team of steely eyed, missile men hardened by six years of experience in the field of rocket powered hovering vehicles. Pixel Rules!" |
