Masten Space Systems is a small startup company that is working to make space accessible to everyone by lowering the price to something any high school science class can easily afford. Following the tradition of Silicon Valley garage startups, the company is bootstrapping itself by applying proven IT project management techniques and the latest in low cost prototyping and manufacturing technology. Made up of former "dot-com" software developers and aerospace engineers who got tired of waiting for their "flying car", the team is dedicated to make space accessible to everyone in our lifetime.

Crew Chief Bio:
David Masten is a manufacturing, mechanical, and information technology engineer with extensive experience in managing complex IT projects for Cisco Systems, Andiamo Systems, and SBC/Ameritech (now AT&T). As past President of the Bay Area's Experimental Rocket Propulsion Society (ERPS), David oversaw the development of the KISS hydrogen peroxide flight vehicle, the Gizmocopter VTVL test platform, and numerous bipropellant and monopropellant engine development projects and tests. David continues on the ERPS Board of Directors.

Interesting Team Fact:
Nearly the entire team comes from the Silicon Valley internet technology background.

Team Masten on the NG-LLC:
"The competition is an important way of proving that VTVL spacecraft are useful for earth-based flights as well as lunar landers. The public will see an almost "pit crew" style turnaround time between flights that shows how these vehicles can be operated just like aircraft. And that's the key to making space affordable." -David Masten, CEO

What is our next big milestone?
Tethered flights

Team Masten would like to thank :
None at the moment

What will we do if we win the prize?
Go to Disneyland! Seriously, we'll apply the funds to our business and keep rolling toward commercial flights in '08.

Why do we have an advantage over the competition?
Our business model depends on rapid and cheap turn around of the vehicle. We have put a large amount of time and effort into making refueling the only necessary component to immediate reflight.
